Book description:

Say the word “walk” and Maggie is ready to go.

“Yes, yes, you get to go,” I assure her.

Yet she never believes my words and continues to jump, prance, and paw until we’re out the door.

Grab the leash and come with us! Enjoy the beauty of Leelanau County in all seasons of the year.

And as I contemplate some of life’s every day lessons, let’s walk with Maggie.

Excerpted from Walks With Maggie

I moved to northwestern Lower Michigan's Leelanau Peninsula a decade ago. Like many others, I vacationed here as a child. As an adult, I was continually drawn to the charm and beauty of the sand dunes, the many inland lakes, and the rural atmosphere of the region.

We live in the small village of Glen Arbor, which sits within the boundaries of the Sleeping Bear National Lakeshore. Lake Michigan and the Sleeping Bear Sand Dunes are a few miles to the west. Each year, thousands of visitors come to visit the area, climb the dunes, swim in Lake Michigan, and hike the many trails.

For a long time this area was farming and logging country, however, farming proved not to be compatible with the climate or the soil. Soon the farms were gone and the forests cut down. Those who survived turned to growing cherries.
